Frederick, MD (May 30, 2023) – techfrederick, a non-profit 501(c)(3) coalition of local high-tech companies dedicated to promoting technology and innovation in the Frederick community, is pleased to announce the appointment of Maria Roat to its esteemed Board of Directors. With her extensive experience and exceptional leadership in the field of technology and public service, Roat will undoubtedly contribute to techfrederick’s mission of fostering growth and collaboration within the local tech ecosystem.
Maria Roat brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the techfrederick Board of Directors, making her an invaluable addition to the organization’s strategic leadership team. Having served in various high-profile roles throughout her career, Roat has consistently demonstrated her commitment to advancing technology initiatives and promoting digital innovation for the betterment of communities.
Roat’s distinguished career spans over three decades, with notable accomplishments in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining techfrederick, she served as the U.S. Deputy Federal Chief Information Officer at the Executive Office of the President, Office of Management and Budget leading technology and cybersecurity policies and guidance for government-wide technology strategy and management. She also served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), where she played a pivotal role in modernizing the agency’s IT infrastructure and driving its digital transformation efforts. Her visionary leadership and expertise were instrumental in leveraging emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency and deliver cutting-edge services to small businesses across the nation.
Furthermore, Roat’s extensive public service includes serving as the Chief Technology Officer at the U.S. Department of Transportation’s and holding various leadership positions within the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of the Navy. Roat retired from the U.S. Navy as a Master Chief with 26 years of active duty and reserve service. Her vast experience in these critical government agencies has equipped her with a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by the technology sector.
