techfrederick Celebrates Its Biggest Year Yet at the 9th Annual techfrederick Games

Frederick, MD – October 18, 2024 – The 9th annual techfrederick Games took over Baker Park on October 4th, delivering a day packed with fun, competition, and team spirit, all supporting the local tech community. With 34 teams competing and nearly 80 volunteers lending their support, this year marked the largest turnout in the event’s history.
The Games were made possible by 23 generous sponsors, and participants took part in a series of 10′ 90s-inspired challenges, each designed to spark collaboration, problem-solving, and good-natured rivalry. Competitors faced off in games like Guess Who—’90s Star Edition, When Pogs Fly, American Gladiator Joust, and the nostalgic The Price is Right: Totally ’90s. The day’s activities combined physical challenges with mental games, fostering a sense of camaraderie across all the teams.
In addition to bringing the tech community together, this year’s Tech Games supported a meaningful cause, raising over $2,500 for Butterfly Ridge Elementary School. Butterfly Ridge Elementary School Butterfly Ridge Elementary School plays a crucial role in the Frederick community by providing young students with a supportive and enriching learning environment. As a Title I school, many of its students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, so the school faces unique challenges in meeting its students’ educational and developmental needs. Donations to Butterfly Ridge Elementary are significant because they help bridge resource gaps, providing essential support that can significantly enhance students’ learning experiences and well-being.
“The Tech Games have always been about team building, celebrating our growing tech community, and giving back,” said Meghan Sweigart, Executive Director of techfrederick. “This year’s turnout and enthusiasm exceeded all our expectations, and we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who contributed.”
With laughter, friendly competition, and ’90s-themed nostalgia, the 2024 techfrederick Games was a year highlight for local tech professionals and volunteers. The event continues strengthening relationships within the Frederick tech community while showcasing the spirit of fun and collaboration.
