Frederick Innovative Technology Center, Inc. Wins RMC Grant

April 5, 2017 / / News

Frederick Innovative Technology Center, Inc. (FITCI), a business incubator and accelerator dedicated to nourishing a range of emerging technology-based businesses, recently earned a $77,518 grant from the Rural Maryland Council (RMC) to support refurbishment of its Metropolitan Court location.

Founded in 2004, FITCI is Frederick’s first incubator. A non-profit corporation, FITCI is a public-private partnership of the governments of Frederick County and the City of Frederick, and the business community. FITCI was created with the support from the state of Maryland to foster entrepreneurial activity by providing companies with the tools for a solid foundation.

FITCI supports technology companies with strategic support, business services, and facilities including wet labs. Support of FITCI dovetails with RMC’s vision of creating a future where all rural Maryland is prosperous, with thriving resources, vibrant economies, and healthy connected communities.

The success of FITCI clients and graduates in creating high- wage employment and adding to the region’s economic vitality is a driving factor behind the development of a second incubator-accelerator in downtown Frederick at 118 N. Market Street, Frederick in early 2018.
