FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FREDERICK, MD. (October 7, 2020) – techfrederick, a coalition of local high-tech companies, held its Fifth Annual Tech Games virtually on Friday, October 2nd, all in the name of Community, Comradery and friendly Competition.

The 14 teams, representing 11 companies and organizations here in Frederick, brought  72 individual players to the event. Facing off in seven competitive events like Minute to Win It, Pourhouse Trivia and Tech Family Feud, over streaming platforms Zoom and Discord, as well as, an epic Outdoor Photo Scavenger Hunt taking teams through their neighborhoods or Downtown Frederick for points, the teams enjoyed a day of virtual teambuilding fun and welcomed comic relief.

Typically held at Baker Park in downtown Frederick, the in-person event needed an innovative format to meet this year’s social-distancing challenges.

“The techfrederick Games is first and foremost a community-building event. We knew we wanted to make it happen this year, despite the challenges. Our community needed it, now more than ever!”, said techfrederick Executive Director, Amy Pontius.

With support from more than twenty volunteers, including Frederick City Mayor Michael O’Connor, the Games were played with passion and perseverance until a winning team emerged. Wellspring Digital, making their Tech Games debut, took the First Place spot.

“We all had a blast, and it was a great pressure release for the Wellspring team, including those who did not play. The games were well organized, challenging and a lot of fun. The techfrederick Games is the very best team building and bonding exercise we’ve ever done and we’ll be back next year!”, said Wellspring Digital CEO, Karl Hindle.

Second and Third Place honors went to local tech companies iHire and Orases teams, respectively.

“iHire had a great time competing and collaborating!”, said Mike Van Slyke from iHire’s team.

“I speak for not ONLY myself but also my team when I say that we had a fantastic, amazing time! I think techfrederick did an amazing job of adapting to a virtual competition.”, said Orases team captain, Jamison Bryant.

Tech Games is held by techfrederick every year in the Fall to further its mission to highlight and foster awareness of our growing tech community in Frederick.
